Summer Pet Care Tips
Dogs are prone to dehydration, heat stroke, and sunburn during the summer months. Dogs do not sweat like we do. They have sweat glands on their nose and pads of their feet. They cool themselves down by panting. *ALWAYS leave fresh cool water out for your dog. *ALWAYS provide your dog with shade. *NEVER leave your pet in the car alone! Even for a quick in and out of the store. Leaving the windows cracked and parking in the shade is not good enough. It only takes a few minutes for a car to get hot enough for a dog to overheat. *Walking/Running should be done in the early morning and evening hours when it is cooler. *Doggie sunscreen can be used to prevent sunburn (as always, check with your vet before use) *Protect your dogs paws! Hot sidewalks and concrete can burn a dogs pads. If it's too hot for your hand, its too hot for your dog. *Never leave your dog unsupervised in the pool.
